Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Arts Festival is a three-week, yearly celebration I always try to visit at least once. This year I picked a mild, sunny Sunday, June 15th, to saunter over there with my boyfriend.
There was actually so much to do and see that I'm going to report on my findings over three different posts.
Flashy things always attract my attention, and you can't get more flashy then a chance to win a cherry red sports car. So I asked my Traveler Boyfriend to take a picture. Later when I was inspecting my pics, I discovered giant peanut butter and jelly jars in the background.
The theme of larger than life objects went on and on. This huge bug was made from objects waiting to be recycled. It guarded a courtyard where children and adults alike were encouraged to make masks and wind chimes and other art out of things like egg cartons and CDs. When the community art was finished, it was hung up around the courtyard for everyone to see.
I realize that a blown up Egg Beaters carton is a not-so-subtle advertisement. Not subtle, but certainly effective. It made me want to get my picture taken with it.
If you're looking for art, how about this enormous lady? I loved her, but I think she resented me a little. Look at her hands itching to give me a good bop on the head.
That's the end of the outrageously large things at the festival. Tomorrow I'll move on to the food. Mmmm. Can't wait.
