Maybe you've seen these before. Biodegradable spoons made from potatoes and oil. This was a revelation to me when I ate lunch at the Pittsburgh Zoo on November 5th. They're kind of bendy, but they are cool in a potato kind of way.

After nearly three hour in the zoo, my travel friends and I wandered into the kid's section where you can pet deer and kangaroo if the animals will let you. I'm allergic to all things furry, so I just stood a few inches away and cooed at the deer. Be careful though, they like chewing on your cloths
if you let them.

Elephants are my favorite. I could stand and stare at them all day. They are such graceful, intelligent creatures. Oh, and Pittsburgh has the honor of two, count them, two new babies to ooh and ahh over. They are so cute.

This gorilla on top of the hill was jealously guarding a bunch of other family members, both from this male at the bottom of the hill and from a steady stream of people walking up to the fence. I saw him beat his chest twice, and it really did sound Tarzan-like, without all the yelling. I'm glad he couldn't hop the fence and beat me.
As I left the zoo, I told my travel friends that I wanted to take at least half the animals home with me. Of course, I'm sure a rhinoceros would be unhappy living in my apartment with a bunch of meercats. Thank goodness I can go to the zoo to see the animals as often as I want.
