The festivals and landscapes he captures on film are mesmerizing, but it's the story that keeps me watching.
I didn't know that in a span of a hundred years a ruler took over most of India then abandoned his throne to wander in the south looking for truth. This would be quite the story by itself, but then his grandson became ruler and fought a war involving hundreds of thousands of soldiers. When the war was over and he won, he too tried to find meaning in life and ended up posting monuments to non-violence all over the country. And all this was 300 years before Jesus was born.
I can't wait to hear more. I've posted a behind the scenes clip to wet your appetite. Check your PBS schedule for air dates.
